The choice of motor enclosure can have a large impact on motor investment and operating costs.
Totally enclosed motor designs are preferred in applications where one or more of the following requirements exist: internal motor parts must be protected from adverse ambient conditions, low-noise operation is required, a compact design is necessary, or abundant cooling water is available (such as marine applications).
Applications commonly using large water cooled totally enclosed motors include:
UET-Ecodyne supplies motor coolers (coils) for medium and large water cooled electrical motors. The coils are installed in the motor housing or in a remote cooling unit in the case of TEFV/TEPV and serve to cool the air stream that directly cools the motor.
Motor coolers from UET-Ecodyne are suitable for various mechanical arrangements, including:
Where cooling water is not available, UET-Ecodyne can evaluate the use of Air Cooled Heat Exchangers (ACHE) to reach the required cooling water temperature. For large motors this can often be a more compact and economical solution than Totally Enclosed Air-To-Air Cooled (TEAAC) motors. The ACHE can be also remotely to further reduce the size of the motor installation, reduce noise emissions in proximity to the motor and take advantage of potentially cooler ambient conditions outside of a machinery house.
UET-Ecodyne manufacturers motor coolers to ASME and TEMA code, and subsequently may bear the ASME “U” stamp. Rigorous quality assurance processes including pressure and leak testing are undertaken for each unit to ensure code compliance, leak tightness and reliable service.
UET-Ecodyne offers a wide range of material choices.
